I’ve been in your seat.
I was a founder long before I was a CFO. I built a mobile marketing company in the US and an app and web development studio in the Netherlands, and co-founded a technology innovation and R&D company where I ran finance, legal and operations. Along the way I mentored founders in multiple accelerator programmes and sat on startup advisory boards.
The situations above are not theory to me. As a founder I have been the CEO, the CFO and the help desk at once, had to answer investor questions before the reporting could, and watched growth outpace the finance set-up. That is why I build finance functions that stay ahead of the business, not behind it.
Today I am fractional CFO for a group of international e-commerce scale-ups, alongside my role as Head of Finance Benelux & Finland at an international software group. I have been on both sides of the table: as the founder, and as the one challenging founders on their numbers. I don’t just know what good finance looks like; I know what it takes to get there while you are also running the company.
